Summary

Performing Overload Cold Fuse will additionally Fuse Entangle the target to anything else which would take that fuse, such as zuggles, smuggles, and attached purgatory items of the same type as the CF parent.

Versatility

This glitch is relatively freeform, with requirements that can be met in many ways. As such, Method 1 will provide the general form, leaving the specifics up to choice, while the remainder of the methods will give more specific ways to achieve the requirements.

Method 1: General instructions

Prepare:

  • Enough Zuggle Overload to Overload Drop or Overload Pickup a weapon/shield (depending on intended parent type)
  • At least two of the intended parent type and one of the opposite type

Steps:

  1. Connect the intended FE parent (A) to Link without equipping it. This can be essentially any variation of a zuggle, smuggle, or purgatory, so long as it is not equipped in the menu, but does receive an FE connection to anything you fuse to that type
  2. Overload Drop or Overload Pickup another item (B) of A's type
  3. Provide B with a connection back to Link to allow Overload Cold Fuse. The most common ways are fusing it to the opposite type, having a Zuggle Dropped CF/FE parent, and using Fail-Drop Cold Fuse
  4. Fuse the target to B. This will Cold Fuse it to B, and Fuse Entangle it to A
  5. If B is not important, swap off it or unequip it to dispose of it. If it is important, fail-drop** it into Link's hands to safely retrieve it (or use any other way to unequip it without destroying it/disrupting its state)
  6. To retrieve a smuggled/zuggled A, drop an equipped item of that type

Method 2: Resync Zuggle

  • This method will work with any intended parent, anywhere, making it the most versatile option on 1.2.0 and up.
  • Older patches, of course, have other fully-portable ways to Zuggle (and, for that matter, to Fuse Entangle).

Prepare:

  • Enough Zuggle Overload to Overload Drop or Overload Pickup a weapon/shield (depending on intended parent type)
  • At least two of the intended parent type and two of the opposite type
  • A Steering Stick

Creating a Portacull via overload:

  1. Overload Drop a shield and fuse it to a weapon
  2. Fuse a Steering Stick to the shield, causing Overload Cold Fuse
  3. Mount the Steering Stick and wait for the mounting animation to complete (this will allow immediate dismount)
  4. Swap shields, then mash Cancel (B/X) to dismount immediately
  5. Fuse the steering stick to the opposite type of the intended parent, creating a Portacull

Performing Overload FE:

  1. Swap Resync Zuggle the intended parent (A) with any variant of SRZ
  2. Overload Drop or Overload Pickup another item (B) of A's type
  3. Fuse B to the opposite type (or provide some other connection back to Link, such as a zuggle-dropped FE parent)
  4. Fuse the target to B. This will Cold Fuse it to B, and Fuse Entangle it to A
  5. Either fail-drop B into Link's hand to safely retrieve it, or else simply swap off it to dispose of it
  6. Drop an equipped item of A's type to drop the zuggle and retrieve it

Method 3: VD/DI Smuggle/Zuggle

  • This method works on any version, but is most potent on 1.2.0 and up, where Void Dipping/Despawn Interrupt are easier than in older patches, while Zuggle/Fuse Entanglement are harder than before.
  • Due to the mechanics of DI, it is often the most convenient option on these patches due to its speed and timing-free nature.

Prepare:

  • Enough Zuggle Overload to Overload Drop or Overload Pickup a weapon/shield (depending on intended parent type)
  • A VD or DI weapon/shield (A) as the intended parent

Steps:

  1. Smuggle A (one way is to drop A, swap to another of A's type, then drop or unequip that item, all within a single pause)
  2. If taking A through a warp or load is desired, convert the smuggle into a zuggle by equipping something over it (in the world, not just the menu) and fail-dropping it
  3. Overload Drop or Overload Pickup another item (B) of A's Type
  4. Fuse B to the opposite type (or provide some other connection back to Link, such as a zuggle-dropped FE parent)
  5. Fuse the target to B. This will Cold Fuse it to B, and Fuse Entangle it to A
  6. Either fail-drop B into Link's hand to safely retrieve it, or else simply swap off it to dispose of it
  7. Drop an equipped item of A's type to drop the smuggle/zuggle and retrieve it
  8. If desired, convert A into a normal item by warping with it equipped

Method 4: Overload Drop Zuggle

  • Method this page came with. I'm not touching it until I get a better understanding of what, if anything, it's worth.
  • (pretty sure toti uses this one a lot but I haven't the slightest clue why, except that his clips look like he has hasn't missed an input since 2023)
  • For most people in most scenarios, method 2/3 will be a strict upgrade, with fewer and easier steps for an identical outcome.
  • Sometimes it's useful to have the zuggle not drop when something over it is dropped, though. I guess? We really just need an ODZ page

Method (not my writeup not my fault):

Allows for full fuse entanglement by combining portable culling with the mechanics of zuggle overload.

  1. Perform Zuggle Overload
  2. Overload cold fuse a steering stick to a weapon/shield, SDC with it, and fuse it to a different weapon/shield to setup portable culling
  3. Overload drop the item you want to FE to (cannot be the same type as portacull equipment), portacull SLD the target item without loading a save at the end
  4. The item should drop smuggle upon picking it up empty-handed, pickup the portacull item and SLD it once again (without loading a save). This will cause it to drop zuggle.
  5. Overload drop another item of the same type as the target and fuse it to opposite equipment type (weapon -> shield OR shield -> weapon)
  6. Fuse the target item to the overload dropped item
  7. Unequip overload drop, pickup drop zuggled item, and drop it with Link's back to a wall

Notes

  • If the target already has an FE parent, performing Overload Cold Fuse or Overload FE will, like all cold fuse methods, result in Pseudo Fuse: the target will ghost and become visually attached to the CF parent, but will still only be considered fused to the FE parent(s).
